Bitget's Final Withdrawal Phase Due Today at 08:00 UTC
Bitget is scheduled to complete its phased withdrawal restoration today, with all remaining token withdrawals, fiat services and P2P transactions set to resume at 08:00 UTC under its published recovery plan, crypto.news reported. CEO Gracy Chen said on Wednesday that withdrawals for all tokens would resume on Friday, with BTC, ETH and USDT access already restored. Bitcoin withdrawals reopened on September 28; by Monday morning the exchange had processed 9,585 BTC withdrawals totaling 4,098 BTC, Bitcoin.com News reported.
The exchange has also replenished its user protection fund to roughly $309 million — two days ahead of the one-week, $300-million target Chen set after the September 24 incident, in which an attacker used stolen high-level credentials from a third-party security product flaw to push fraudulent withdrawal commands through Bitget's wallet system. The exchange's formal incident report, prepared with Mandiant and SlowMist, is expected imminently.
Q3 Tally: $1.26 Billion Lost to Hacks
Crypto lost $1.26 billion to hacks in the third quarter while bitcoin posted a monster quarter of its own, CoinDesk's Daybook reported. September was the year's worst month: 99 incidents — the most since February 2025 — and $768.5 million stolen, the largest monthly haul of 2026. CertiK's count put the September figure at $766 million, driven by the Bitget and Liquid Network breaches landing in the same 30-day window. "Yes, it is bad optics," Nansen senior research analyst Nicolai Sondergaard told CoinDesk. The Q4 question is whether the incident pace holds, and whether the industry's reimbursement pledges — Bitget's fund restoration, Ostium's portal, NEAR Intents' full-repayment commitment — outpace the losses they answer for.
